Can anyone guess what Idaho’s state food is? Or at least the food it’s well known for?
POTATOES!
Why did the potato cross the road?
He saw a fork up ahead!
STEP ONE – Try It:
First step was to try it! The kids and I headed down to the Potato Museum in Blackfoot, Idaho! We learned all about the history of potato farming and why Idaho plays such an important role in the US production of the crop.
After learning, we headed over to the adjoining Potato Cafe! On the menu were all kinds of potato delights… including French fries and loaded potatoes! We went for the loaded baked potatoes – complete with butter, cheese, sour cream, and bacon! Delicious!

STEP TWO – Make It:
We searched and searched on the ride home, among the miles and miles of potato farms, for a local roadside stand! Well, we found one! And just one. But we brought home a few pounds of russet potatoes.

After bringing them home, Levi and I decided to make twice-baked potatoes in the camper! They turned out fantastic! We used a recipe from The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. The addition of the bacon IN the potato mixture made all the difference!
Serving them up on the side of a steak (sika deer at that) made for a phenomenal dinner!

What do you say to a baked potato that’s angry?
Anything! Just butter it up!
